We acknowledge that the City of Welland is located in the Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, as well as the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee Peoples. These Nations have stewarded these lands, waterways and natural resources since time immemorial.

The Niagara Region has long been an important area for trade, travel, agriculture and connection due to its proximity to many waterways. Long before municipal boundaries or colonial infrastructure were established, Indigenous communities used these waterways as vital transportation and trade routes.

As public servants and community leaders, we recognize that acknowledging this history is only one step. We remain committed to listening, learning and supporting meaningful reconciliation through equitable policy, inclusive community engagement and respect for Indigenous voices, knowledge and leadership.
